10 Amazing Horror Movies You'll Never Watch Again
6. The Neon Demon
Visually this film is stunning. Thematically it’s really interesting. The performances, for the vapid and cold characters they’re meant to represent, are on point. All this doesn’t mean that it wouldn’t be incredibly boring to watch on repeat.
It’s a slow burner, this is. You really have to go in with the intention of watching and letting it wash over you because otherwise you may find yourself disappointed. Elle Fanning is perfect as the ‘young girl moves to big city’ archetype and Jena Malone as her properly weird, necrophilic industry friend - but these two are probably the biggest personalities in the film and the thing runs for almost two hours.
Modern cinema has trained our brains to be constantly looking for action and for the most part you’re not going to find that here. It’s a great film that deserves its acclaim but it’s also understandable that, for a lot of people, this was the cinematic equivalent of a slog.
