Now only one film can be the title of this entry but let it be known that this stands for all the other horrid, torture-porn films just like it. Martyrs is the kind of film that you can just about get away with watching once, so you can say you’ve seen it. It meets the ‘amazing’ threshold not because the content is particularly wonderful but because of the cultural impact it has had and its widespread fame even outside of the horror community.

People know Martyrs because it’s come to represent a quintessential horror film. However, if you’re the kind of person that watches things like Martyrs or 120 Days of Sodom or A Serbian Film on repeat then you need to be on some sort of watchlist.

There are plenty of people that will argue that these films are the very best that the genre has to offer and that they beg to be rewatched. I think that if you do that you’re a weirdo and I don’t want to be anywhere near you. I don’t trust you.

So yeah sure Martyrs and all are ‘amazing’ in the way of what they did for the genre, but nobody in their right mind actually wants to relive it after one watch.
