10 Amazing Horror Movies You'll Never Watch Again
3. We Need To Talk About Kevin
Is it a horror? Depends on who you ask, but it sure is horrific. Whether you think of it more as a psychological horror or a slow-burn thriller, you have to admit that We Need To Talk About Kevin is a difficult watch.
No film concerning the deaths of multiple children, especially in the scenario of a school massacre, is going to be easy to drink in. The film is miserable from the outset, showing both mother Eva (Tilda Swinton) and son, Kevin (Ezra Miller) in less than flattering lights.
The question of culpability for Kevin’s heinous acts is ever-present, with director Lynne Ramsay daring audiences to ask themselves to what extent Kevin’s own mother shaped the monster he became. Not a single part of it feels good to watch, especially if you’ve read the book and know where things are going eventually.
The reason you’re unlikely to ever rewatch We Need To Talk About Kevin is simple: it’s too bleak. School massacres and psychopathic little boys are all too real, the last thing you want is to endure more of it in film.
