10 Amazing Horror TV Shows With Soul Destroying Endings

1. The Haunting Of Bly Manor

The Haunting Of Bly Manor
Netflix

After the success of Mike Flanagan’s initial Netflix series, The Haunting of Hill House, many wondered if he’d be able to recapture that magic when Bly Manor was announced. Well, good news and bad news. As usual, Flanagan knocked it out of the park. The bad news is that the emotional trauma of Hill House was ramped up to eleven the second time around.

The entire show is no stranger to sadness, with tragic death, unrequited love and heartbreak nipping at the heels of almost very character. But the likeability of the show’s romantic leads, Dani and Jaime, helped to add sprinkles of hope into the darkness. We just knew, despite our best hopes, that something bad would happen to them.

By the end however, the two have seemingly escaped the ghosts and terror, until it’s revealed that the Lady in the Lake still haunts Jaime, and Dani sacrifices herself for her lover. To make things more devastating, it’s revealed that the narrator is in fact Jaime herself, telling the tale of her lost love.

AND THEN, because Flanagan just wants to push the knife deeper, it turns out that Dani’s ghost watches over Jaime every night because her love is stronger than death. Bittersweet, genuinely beautiful and a haunting end to a haunting tale.
