American Pie is everyones guilty pleasure. Ill be honest: after snubbing the series for years, I finally succumbed to its fatal allure one boring evening and never looked back, watching all four movies in a back to back binge session that sucked me in at teenage angst and spat me out at twenty-something sentamentalism. Simply, a whole generation has grown up with the American Pie franchise, each stage of life lived in tandem with four hapless but lovable nerds from western Michigan. These days, of course, those four nerds are in their mid-thirties, yet given that the movies audience has grown up alongside the cast, a fifth and final installment of the franchise makes perfect sense. If youre expecting a movie about the trials and tribulations of parenthood in the suburbs, however, youre in for a surprise. Tara Reid, aka Vicky Lathum in the first two movies, has revealed that the film will be set in of course Las Vegas. The gen is that the boys reunite to attempt the perfect American holiday yet, somewhat predictably, find out all too late that the bright lights of Vegas hide a dark, seedy underbelly. With all of the original cast reportedly on board and Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (of the Harold & Kumar franchise) co-directing, expect gross-out humour galore with a little tear-jerking sentiment for measure.
