10 Amazing Movies Under 90 Minutes Long

1. Fruitvale Station

Toy Story
The Weinstein Company

Runtime: 85 minutes

The first collaboration between director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan (Creed and Black Panther would follow), Fruitvale Station is a powerful drama that explores the death of Oscar Grant, a real-life African-American man who was shot at the titular station on New Year's Day 2009.

This could easily have been a shlocky, melodramatic movie that milked sad real life events to emotionally stimulate the viewer, but brilliantly, Coogler didn't design Fruitvale Station in this way. We all know how this story ends so the characters and events do the talking, and there's tension and resonant emotion inherent to the situation.

Fruitvale Station isn't an easy watch like the other films on this list, but after watching Black Panther and Creed, revisiting the first movie from one of the great modern cinematic duos makes it feel even more special - like paying a visit to an old friend. And, you'll get a taut, confidently-directed movie to boot.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
