In upcoming Tomb Raider reboot director Roar Uthaug’s first feature film Cold Prey, the classic slasher flick is given the Norwegian treatment.

Focusing on a group of five friends who head off for a weekend of snowboarding fun (as Norwegian horror protagonists often do), the movie follows them as they take shelter in a seemingly abandoned hotel after one of them breaks their leg only to be picked off one by one at the hands of a mysterious mountain dwelling maniac.

Admittedly, Cold Prey doesn’t exactly break much new ground and features plenty of familiar tropes throughout but Uthaug does manage to breathe some fresh air into the slasher genre thanks in part to the movie’s stunning cinematography and well-rounded characters.

As is often the case with slashers, the film spawned two sequels that didn’t quite live up to the promise of their predecessor. Unsurprisingly, an English language remake of the original is currently in development too.
