Who could forget their first meeting with Woody and Buzz? From Andy's bed to the awning of an RV, they encapsulated everything it was to dream as a child and answered the question that for as long as there have been toys, children have asked: Do my toys come to life? Well, yes, yes they do.

In 1995, Pixar were a tiny company working by themselves on a feature-length movie entirely made with computers, and had been doing just that for at least four years prior.

Toy Story, for all that will be said about its central themes and story, was an incredible achievement, and was groundbreaking for the animation industry. Since very few major animated films are now drawn traditionally, it heralded a new era of animation and filmmaking.

Like only Snow White before it, Toy Story is the only other animated film given a Special Achievement Oscar. It was further nominated for three other Academy Awards in 1996, Best Original Song (You Got A Friend In Me), Best Original Musical Or Comedy Score, and impressively Best Original Screenplay.

Though it won none of them, Toy Story is one of the most critically acclaimed franchises of all time and has won a collective four Academy Awards from 12 nominations, changing the landscape for animation in the process.
