10 Announced Movie Sequels Nobody Asked For

6. Spaceballs II

Once upon a time, Spaceballs II actually seemed like a pretty great idea, with Mel Brooks' original 1987 Star Wars parody even including a gag about the prospective follow-up, which it dubbed "Spaceballs II: The Search For More Money."

Yet last June, some 37 years after Spaceballs' release, the sequel was officially confirmed to be in the works, with Josh Gad set to star and produce with a 98-year-old Brooks in tow, while Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) directs.

But let's be honest - at this point in his life and career, Brooks' involvement will likely be minimal at best, and the recent TV series sequel to his cult classic comedy History of the World, Part I wasn't exactly great.

Gad's enthusiasm to do Spaceballs II right is laudable, but it's also easy to approach his claim that everyone who's read the script has been "blown away" by it with a truckload of salt.

Spaceballs II should've happened in the '90s - ideally the early '90s when John Candy was still alive - but in 2025, there just isn't the audience hunger for it.
