10 Annoying Tropes Marvel Needs To Abandon To Save Phase 3

3. Tony Stark Being Tony Stark

There's no denying the fact that Marvel struck gold when they cast Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. The success of the Iron Man movies is explanation enough as to why he's the highest paid actor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and also why he's always at the forefront of marketing materials. After three solo outings and two Avengers appearances though, it's time that Marvel dramatically shakes up this mainstay of their movies. Stark not taking things serious became somewhat grating in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and while the character does tend to display some genuinely heroic traits every now and again, he still feels like the one MCU superhero who hasn't changed since his first appearance. With any luck, Phase 3's Captain America: Civil War will deliver a new take on the character as he realises that it's time to grow up and take on a new role. Despite the success of Iron Man 3, Iron Man 4 doesn't appear to be a priority for the studio or for fans, so whatever the plan is for Tony, here's hoping that growing up is part of it. If not, this fan-favourite hero might just end up losing the support which helped make him so special in the first place.
