10 Anticipated Movie Sequels Stuck In Development Hell

Ryan Reynolds is one of the biggest names in Hollywood, and though there have been certain issues regarding Blake Lively's It Ends With Us lawsuit, as well as the fact that pretty much every one of his characters in recent years has had basically his own personality, he has undeniable star power.

When Free Guy released in 2021, it marked the first time Reynolds worked with director Shawn Levy, before collaborating again on The Adam Project, Deadpool & Wolverine. There has been another film in development that would have brought the two back together yet again, namely a sequel to that first ride, Free Guy.

Free Guy was a surprising hit and did well at the box office despite pandemic-related obstacles, and although revisiting it would be a fun prospect, there is one particular roadblock that has gotten in the way. A big, pink roadblock in the form of Margot Robbie.

Levy confirmed that a sequel was being developed, but after Barbie, themed around someone in a fictional world finding self-awareness, saw such unmitigated success, things were put on hold. Until something different for the sequel can be found, this will likely stay on the backburner. With Reynolds' schedule naturally being so hectic, and Levy about to join the Star Wars universe with Star Wars: Starfighter, this sequel may never see the other side of development hell.
