10 Awesome 2018 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck

4. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Why It Should've Sucked: Belated sequels rarely work out well, and that seems doubly true when you're talking about a wildly unnecessary follow-up to an ABBA-themed musical that was already pushing it the first time.

With the trailers hinting at Meryl Streep's absence beyond a mere cameo, this had the unmistakable whiff of a years-too-late cash-grab.

Why It Was Awesome: Who could've seen this coming? Not only was Mamma Mia 2 a ludicrous good time, it actually turned out significantly better than its predecessor even with Streep only showing up for a few minutes at the end.

Shamelessly leaning into its campy tone and benefiting immensely from a thoroughly charming Lily James, Here We Go Again served up more of everything that worked the first time, while roping even more A-listers into the mix for good measure.

If you can't get on-board with a "Fernando" duet featuring Cher and Andy Garcia, do you even love life?
