10 Awesome 2019 Movies You Probably Missed
6. The Perfection
Much like The Art of Self-Defense, The Perfection isn't what you think it is by first appearances.
A deliciously entertaining genre-bending psychological horror, the film begins with cello prodigy Lizzie (Logan Browning) becoming acquainted with Charlotte (Allison Williams), a former cellist who had to quit her prestigious position at the same school due to a personal tragedy.
From that synopsis alone you might think you know where The Perfection is going, but veteran director Richard Shepard (The Matador) ensures to continually subvert expectations, hopping from one genre to the next and thereby ensuring a wild, unpredictable ride from first minute to last.
Browning and Williams are terrific in the central roles, Shepard's free-wheeling direction is equal parts fun and disturbing, and the script tackles some hot-button issues with fiery panache.
Don't even read anything else about it - just go and watch it.
