10 Awesome Female Directors Who Need A Superhero Movie

3. Lena Dunham

Now, there's no doubting that Girls creator Lena Dunham would be a thoroughly unconventional choice for a superhero movie, but she'd also deliver an absolutely singular effort beyond any doubt.

Her filmmaking style isn't for everyone, sure, but she's got a unique voice and would be a fascinating choice for a hip, feminist take on a classic property, assuming Marvel or DC didn't want to clip her wings too much.

How Likely Is It?: Dunham was working on a feminist reboot of Archie Comics a few years ago, so she's clearly not opposed to engaging with the medium, though it just depends on how much control she'd be willing to give up to a major studio, especially considering her lack of big-budget filmmaking cred. It probably won't happen, but it is interesting to consider. 2/10
