10 Awesome Horror Movies That Make No Sense Whatsoever

2. Donnie Darko

Widely regarded as a masterpiece, 2001's Donnie Darko is, to put it lightly, utterly off the rails.

Starring a pre-pubescent Jake Gyllenhaal as the title character, the movie is about a troubled teenager who gets visions of a psychotic rabbit. You know, classic teen stuff.

Not only does Frank the rabbit force Donnie into committing crimes, but he also predicts that the world will end in a month's time. All of this comes together in a movie that will leave you wondering what the hell is going on, but also reeling at its marvellous exploration of mental health struggles.

It's a hard film to watch for plenty of reasons, but an absolute must for anyone who considers themselves a fan of cinema.

The movie is bold, challenging, and entirely unique. There really hasn't been anything like it before or since. Its legend has only grown due to the fact that director Richard Kelly has only made two more films in the years preceding.

Wait a second... there's a sequel? And Kelly is working on another sequel due for release soon?

This isn't going to end well, is it?
