10 Awesome Movie Gunfights You've Probably Never Seen

6. The Hotel Assault (Punisher: War Zone)

Despite receiving love from comedian Patton Oswalt and earning itself a small cult following since its release, comic book adaptation Punisher: War Zone is still one of the most underrated action movies of modern times. It mixes gory, over-the-top action with hilarious dark humour (type "Punisher War Zone rocket" into YouTube if you don't believe me) and it features a deliciously hammy performance from Dominic West as the disfigured villain Jigsaw. It may not be The Dark Knight, but then it was never intended to be. At the climax of the film The Punisher - a homicidal New York vigilante - must assault an abandoned hotel where Jigsaw is holding a mother and daughter hostage, using them as bait to draw him out. Sounds easy enough right? Well on each floor Jigsaw has placed a gang of well armed henchmen to slow him down, and he must go floor by floor laying waste to all in his path; which equals a hell of a lot of dead bodies by the time he's finished. Head's explode, limbs separate from bodies and a group of villains find their carefully-laid ambush rudely interrupted by an airburst grenade. It's excessively violent, ridiculously over the top and very, very entertaining.
