10 Awesome Movies That Urgently Need a Director's Cut

The Director's Cut of a film: definitive, precise, and all-encompassing. It is this version of a film that can be viewed as a complete narrative of the story the director intended to tell. All too often, the movie studios force directors to cut scenes due to viewing time constraints, or because they feel the flow of the film as initially presented will not appeal to a wider audience, and thus limit the film's earning potential; these are but a few reasons the director's ultimate vision never sees the light of day. We here at What Culture have compiled a list of 10 awesome movies that have suffered such a fate and deserve to be re-cut in order to complete their director's final vision.

10. Superman Returns

The addition of Bryan Singer's silver screen homage to the Richard Donner Superman films of the 1980's makes this list, in large part, due to being a slow-paced drama-heavy film, but also because we get the cinematic reboot of the Big Blue Boy Scout in the coming year. However, it's necessary to revisit this film now, so we can close the door on the golden age of the Superman films and prepare ourselves (and open our minds!) for a completely new take on the character with Zack Snyder's upcoming film. Bryan Singer's Returns screams for a re-release with more action scenes and fewer Lois Lane drama scenes, and it could also do with a nice, new helping of some additional backstory on where Supes had been while on his off Earth-hiatus, and more details on that proposed Super-Child he seems to have given Lois Lane prior to his self-imposed exile. The film itself was sold to the studio as Singer's extension of the Richard Donner Superman universe, and thus the studio undoubtedly limited the final product that was released to try and streamline that overall story thread.
