Feast was the inventive horror script that won the third season of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Project Greenlight, and told the story of a group of desperate characters fighting to survive in a bar under siege by vicious monsters.

The script likes to toy with genre conventions, so the characters who usually survive a horror film – the kid, the Ripley-like female lead – don’t last that long. The film makes this point early when a bloodied, muscley badass shows up to warn everyone the creatures are coming. He talks tough and carries a big shotgun, but he’s dead within two minutes of his intro.

It’s a funny scene, but it could have been an all-time classic if first choice Mark Wahlberg had taken the role instead. Seeing a real movie star suddenly enter the scene - only to brutally die within moments - would have been infinitely more shocking than seeing it happen to that bloke off of Grey's Anatomy.
