10 Awesome Recent Movies That Must Never Get Sequels
4. Get Out
Get Out is one of the most unique and acclaimed horror films of the last few years, even scooping a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for writer-director Jordan Peele, while once again crowbarring open debate about race relations in the U.S.
Considering that it made $255.5 million against a $4.5 million budget, it's not terribly surprising that sequel chatter began almost immediately after the film hit cinemas.
While there's clearly a lot left open and unexplained in the world Peele has created, the idea of a direct sequel which reveals what happened to Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) just sounds terrible, really.
Leaving audiences to ponder what became of him is so much more interesting, and there's the worry that a follow-up would just demystify the movie's many brilliant ambiguities.
Will It Happen?: Blumhouse love them some sequels, so they're obviously angling for it, though producer Jason Blum is known for having a pretty hands-off approach with filmmakers, so it could go either way.
Blum said that Peele was "flirting with the idea", though he's already in-production on his next horror movie, Us, which should keep him busy for quite some time.
A movie set within the same world actually seems quite likely, assuming Us isn't itself, but a straight sequel with Kaluuya returning? Nah, and rightly so.
