3. T2 Trainspotting

T2 Trainspotting did something incredibly difficult: it served up a 20-years-later sequel that didn't seem desperate, unnecessary or a depressing shadow of what came before.

Rather, Danny Boyle's electric sequel poignantly examined how both its protagonists and the world have changed since 1996, functioning as a breathtaking victory lap for one of the most acclaimed dramas of the 1990s.

It's probably best to leave it there, though. Many will want Boyle and co. to go for the hat-trick, but they were honestly lucky enough to pull off one gangbusters sequel.

Will It Happen?: Probably not. The obvious idea is to make another sequel in, say, another 20 years, but considering the effort involved in getting T2 made and how well it turned out, it's easy to imagine the cast and crew just wanting to let things lie.
