10 Awesome Star Wars Accessories We Want To Own Real-Life

6. Darth Vader's Breathing Apparatus

Star Wars Everyone has tried to mimic the eerie breathing of the Sith lord and fearsome leader of the Imperial Starfleet Darth Vader at least once in their life. However, for me nothing ever comes close to the movie, that's not to say it's impossible, I'm sure there are hundreds of decent impressions out in the depths of YouTube. The original sound was created by the sound engineer of LucasFilm Ben Burtt, who achieved this sound by placing a microphone into the mouthpiece of a Scuba-diving mask which he then proceeded to record. He said he was drawn to the €œcold, mechanical€ sound of it, which then became iconic to the character. It has been said and argued that Vader cannot breathe without mechanical assistance, however some small factors within the film go against this hypothesis. For example when Vader surprises Luke as he emerges from the dark, it implies that he can still hold his breath; meaning he still has some, if only minimal, control over his breathing.
