10 Awful Films Buffy The Vampire Slayer Actors Want Us To Forget
2. Date Movie (2006) - Alyson Hannigan
Alyson Hannigan successfully broke the meek good girl image that she had built up as Willow Rosenberg in Buffy the Vampire Slayer by transitioning early to the raunchy teen comedy series American Pie (and subsequently finding her wild side on Buffy itself). But she stands as the example for why, as an actor, it is better to leave the spoofing of your own films up to the professionals.
Lampooning the date movie tradition, Date Movie is just one in a long line of failed, feature-length Jason Friedberg/Aaron Seltzer send-ups (Scary Movie, Disaster Movie, Epic Movie, etc.) that everyone, Friedberg and Seltzer included, must have been surprised they were allowed to keep making.
Hannigan stars as Julie Jones, clad in the epitome of badly aged film garb, a fat suit, until her love therapist slims her down by pimping her out at a garage (draining the mayonnaise from her body, etc.).
Misogynistic, gross out and full of beloved Friedberg/Seltzer tropes like gutter humour surnames ('Fockyerdoder') and family heirloom vaginal thermometers, Date Movie successfully slays the dignity of all involved in just 83 minutes.
It may be no surprise that Hannigan hasn't clocked in many movie minutes in the past decade and a half. But as a core cast member of two hugely successful TV series and one big film franchise, does she really need to?
