Just because a video game is great doesn't mean it can translate into a solid movie. Super Mario Bros' premise is so weird, it couldn't (and didn't) work when it was brought to the big screen.

However, a film adaptation of the third-person shooter, Max Payne, feels like it has potential. It has a straightforward story revolving around a detective who's trying to avenge his murdered family, while investigating a new drug called Valkyr. But what makes the game stand out is Max's charisma, the Matrix-inspired gunfights, and amazing neo-noir style.

Although adaptations of games tend to butcher the story, the Max Payne film stays faithful to the source material, since it centres around Max hunting a Valkyr trafficker, who's played by Prison Break's Amaury Nolasco.

Even though the story is the same, it's irrelevant since the movie has none of the elements that made the game iconic. There's no creative shootouts, no wisecracking dialogue, or no charismatic characters to root for.

Heck, the film is so drab, it barely has any colour! In Nolasco's defence, he's totally fine in the role, but it's a shame he couldn't appear in a better movie.
