10 Awful Movies That Embarrassingly Made A Fortune

Worldwide Box Office Gross: $1.159 billion

Minions have taken popular culture by storm. The product of an infinite amount of unfunny memes that are constantly shared on Facebook by your auntie. They've infested the world of pop music, which really didn't need infesting any further. People have them on their t-shirts and their phone cases. As a species we are probably not far from building a shrine to them and starting a religion dedicated to the yellow, banana loving... things.

Yet despite their surprising popularity, it's hard to escape the fact that their 2015 movie, a spin-off from lukewarm Despicable Me films, is terrible. Objectively awful. It is the cinematic equivalent of receiving a lobotomy. It could probably be seen as an avant garde experiment to see how low humans will sink in their appreciation of what comedy actually is. For all of the parents out there that were dragged to the cinema by their children, god speed. And for the adults who went to see it at their own will, I hope hell is hot.

Minions is the 11th highest grossing film ever made. It's easy to accept that no matter how much you love your favourite art-house or obscure independent film they're never going to become one of the highest grossing films ever made, but to put Minions' global domination into perspective, it grossed more than any of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings', The Dark Knight, Jurassic Park, and any James Bond or Pixar animation film.

So many respectable big budget blockbuster franchises have been swiped aside by a swarm of yellow turds spouting gibberish. What have we done to our world? What have we done to our beloved cinema?

Maybe you think we've missed out a film that made more money than it deserves? Or perhaps for some reason you love some of the films listed? If so, let us know in the comments below!
