10 Bad Film Adaptations Of Great Books
1. The Dark Tower
The Dark Tower series is one of Stephen King's most critically acclaimed and popular series of novels in which he drew inspiration from The Lord Of The Rings trilogy and the classic western film, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.
The series follows Ronald Deschain, the last of a knightly order known as gunslingers, who share many characteristics with gunslingers of the American Old West, but with some magical elements. As Ronald searches for the legendary Dark Tower, he is constantly tested in epic showdowns while also dealing with moments of great tragedy.
But alas, the film adaptation of the first book had faced many hurdles. Firstly, there were the failed attempts by both J.J Abrams and Ron Howard to get a film going. Then there was the dispute over whether the books should be made into films or a television series for Netflix or HBO. Then Sony Pictures decided to fast track the film and rewrote the original screenplay in order to focus more on the action sequences over the thought provoking elements of its story.
What audiences got was a painfully rushed film that bored critics and failed to live up to any of the books.
