10 Bad Movies Made Much Better If You Watch Them As A Comedy
5. Street Fighter (1994)
Yet another example of a video game movie adaptation gone wrong, Street Fighter is based loosely on the Street Fighter video games produced by Capcom. The film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel Guile and Raúl Juliá as Bison. The film alters the plot of the original game and motives of the Street Fighter characters. It also dramatically lightened the tone of the adaptation, inserting several comical interludes. The film was a commercial success but was universally panned by both critics and fans of the video game series alike. The film offers both an apprehensive mix of off-the-wall farce and violent mayhem in its first half and then gives way to heavy-handed gun-play and a outlandishly high body count during its second half. Though there is one saving grace to the proceedings, that being Raúl Juliá as the evil commander. Juliá (in his final role before his tragic death) hams it up shamelessly, his suave presence and throwaway quips single handedly save this noisy, brainless mess. He is truly missed.
