10 Bad Signs That Spell Doom For Paul Feig's Ghostbusters
6. Just Who Is Neil Casey And Why Has He Been Cast As The Villain?
https://twitter.com/EW/status/618470127256891392To be fair, the actors behind the villains of the Ghostbusters franchise haven't exactly been well known. While the producers wanted Paul Reuben for the first film, it never worked out. Instead, Slavitza Jovan played the role, with the late Paddi Edwards providing the voice.
Ghostbusters II, meanwhile, had Wilhelm von Homburg (also known for Die Hard) as Vigo, but again, his voice was dubbed over, in this case by Max Von Sydow, a fact that was not known for a full two decades until Ghostbusters: The Video Game was released in 2009 with Von Sydow in the role, which in turn caused people connected both to the film and game to confirm it. And while Von Sydow is a big name, he wasn't even in the credits.
So casting an unknown as the antagonist isn't a big deal - but ask yourself this:
Doesn't Neil Casey come off as more of a Louis Tully type?
While he could surprise fans, there's not a lot on his resume that suggests he can be the primary antagonist in a major blockbuster. He does have a writing credit at SNL, so that's a nice bit of trivia, but he has mostly done shorts and some TV work.
He could turn out to be as decent as the others, and maybe even keep his own voice - but this reeks of miscasting.
