10 Behind-The-Scenes Stories That Will Change How You View Marvel Studios

4. The Edgar Wright Controversy

What's the real story behind Edgar Wright deciding to leave Ant-Man after being attached to helm the project for eight years? It's been widely reported that the studio apparently approached the director months before shooting began with some extensive notes on the script, particularly in regards to making it feel part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel weren€™t happy with the limited compromises made by Wright and co-writer Joe Cornish, so they turned to two in studio scribes to make the changes for them. Wright was said to be furious about these alterations, leading to him realising that he couldn't make the movie he wanted to. Paul Rudd and Adam McKay would later rewrite it for Peyton Reed. Despite being painted as the bad guys in the press, it's not hard to appreciate where Marvel were coming from. However, it has been said that the studio views the director as executing their vision, and that Feige keeps such a close eye on filming that rather than wait for the dailies to come in, he's often on set and "sees the takes as the directors see the takes."
