It's official: the band are getting back together.

You'd be forgiven for not knowing that there's a sequel to This is Spinal Tap releasing, let alone this September, considering there has been little to no marketing for the film, which is odd considering the original 1984 film is a certified cult classic. So, what's going on?

Well, what we do know is that the sequel is officially titled Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, and will see the return of Rob Reiner as director as well as on-screen documentarian Marty DiBergi.

Reiner's not alone, however, as Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer will also reprise their respective roles of Spinal Tap band members Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, and Derek Smalls.

Larger plot details seem to be under wraps, but the premise will follow the band reuniting after a 15-year hiatus for one last concert. It's what you'd expect and will no doubt echo the reality we often see of bands reuniting, and quite frankly, not knowing when to call it quits.

There's quite a large stumbling block, though, and that's conveying an on-screen 15-year wait with a 40-year wait off it and with the same actors. It remains to be seen how this will work out, and with only a mere 30-second teaser trailer for fans to go by, there is cause for concern.

Legacy sequels are all the rage these days, but how long is too long to wait? 40 years might just be it.
