10 Best & 10 Worst Horror Movies Coming In 2017
8. We Have Always Lived In The Castle
Acclaimed American author Shirley Jackson’s psychologically sinister works have seldom been made into films, perhaps in part due to their emphasis on mounting dread and subtle foreshadowing over action-packed narratives. Only a small number of her works have made it to the big and small screen, notably her classic horror The Haunting of Hill House and short story The Lotter, to varying success.
The latest Jackson work to undergo adaptation is her 1962 novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle. Centring on two sisters, Constance and Merricat, living in a tumbledown mansion with their infirm Uncle Julian and isolated from their fellow townsfolk who suspect Constance was complicit in the poisoning deaths of their parents years earlier, it looks like it could be among the better of her adapted works.
American Horror Story alumni Taissa Farmiga and Alexandra Daddario alongside Captain America actor Sebastian Stan add a bit of current talent to the film’s cast while the famously eccentric Crispin Glover as Uncle Julian is bound to add a touch of weird to the chilling tale. Director Stacie Passon, the same woman behind award-winning film Concussion and two episodes of acclaimed transgender web series drama Transparent, also brings her talents to the table in what will hopefully be a creepy little psychological thriller-horror.
