10 Best 80s Horror Movies You Probably Haven't Seen

9. The Slumber Party Massacre

Everyone knows the classic slasher horrors of the 80s. This was the decade that gave us the original versions of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Child’s Play and Friday the 13th, afterall. However, one particular slasher has gone rather unnoticed, and that is The Slumber Party Massacre.

The film follows a fairly regular slasher movie type plot - a bunch of teenage girls are bumped off one by one at a slumber party by a maniac killer - however, this slasher feels a little different in just how hilarious it is.

The script started off life as an Airplane-like parody that aimed for hilarity by mocking the usual tropes of slashers. However, the director (Amy Holden Jones) instead decided to shoot the movie as a slasher movie told completely straight.

The end result is a strange and delightful (albeit a little all over the place) slasher movie that gives us both scares and laughs in equal measure.
