9. The Road To El Dorado (2000)

The Road to El Dorado is the perfect example of why critics shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Upon release, the film received lukewarm reviews, with most of the complaints being aimed towards the two lead characters.
Nevertheless, there is plenty to love in The Road to El Dorado. Whilst the characters don’t evolve that much, they’re highly entertaining and charming, making the audience instantly root for them despite the fact they aren’t particularly honourable.
From the second our central characters arrive in El Dorado, the city shimmers with golds and greens, and it’s impossible not to fall in love with such an environment.
The crowning jewel of the film, however, would have to be the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer and John Powell’s compositions are magnificent from start to finish. Elton John and Tim Rice also produced several tracks exclusively for the movie, and all of them are instantly catchy and memorable.
Take no notice of the critical response to this film, because The Road to El Dorado is an underrated gem.
