10 Best Animated Sci-Fi Movies
6. Megamind
What is it that makes Megamind better than any other animated superhero movie?
Well, to begin with, it's told from the perspective of the villain, who actually, it turns out, isn't such a bad guy. The inversion of the trope alone is enough to get you interested, but wait. There's more.
Not only does Megamind follow the villain, but it points out many of the issues that the traditional superhero tropes raise.
Firstly, there's the oldest one of all, referenced in the movie, that the good guy gets the girl. Megamind makes it clear that not only is the good guy not particularly good, but that no one "gets" the girl. She's one of the driving forces behind the entire plot, and that's down to her intellectual capabilities, something which the titular villain truly appreciates.
Moreover, the "hero", Titan, is a pretty gross example of a human being, while the "villain" is actually quite a sweet and respectful guy. It's an interesting take on the standard hero story, and it's refreshing to watch.
