10 Best British Films Of The Last Decade

1. Senna

You needn't have any interest in Formula 1 to be bowled over by this fascinating and deeply emotional tribute to racing legend Ayrton Senna, who rose to fame before tragically dying in an accident at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Ditching the usual documentary template of talking head interviews, narration and title cards, Senna instead weaves archive footage together to create a towering examination of the man's life and times, and as such it's little surprise that the film ended up winning a Best Editing BAFTA.

With such a wealth of footage slickly sewn together and a narrative so compelling no fictional treatment could begin to match it, Senna is a classic documentary about the passion that makes life worth living, and how it can all end at a moment's notice. Life-affirming even in its tragedy, you owe it to yourself to see this film.
