10 Best ‘Dead And I Know It’ Moments In Recent Horror Movies

2. Ryan - The Strangers: Chapter 1

To be fair, both Maya and Ryan know their dead in the accompanying image. However, while she was left for dead, Maya somehow managed to survive her run-in with the franchise's trio of masked killers in The Strangers: Chapter 1.

For Maya, she lives to fight another day, set to return in the upcoming Strangers: Chapter 2 and, who knows, possibly even Chapter 3, but Ryan is far less fortunate. With Chapter 1 being an underwhelming disappointment to many fans of the previous two films, one of the biggest complaints is that so much of it just feels like a beat-for-beat retread of the original movie.

On that front, these two lovebirds wind up in a remote property where they have knocks on the door asking for Tamara, and ultimately the couple are tied to some chairs and supposedly stabbed to death. Sure, Man in the Mask, Dollface, and Pin-Up Girl may have a certain M.O. when it comes to their murders, but this is just such a lazy way to kickstart this new Strangers trilogy.

Anyways, it's with this tied-to-a-chair-while-maniacs-pull-out-knives moment where Maya and Ryan know they're doomed. Though, with Maya - much like with Liv Tyler's Kristen in the first Strangers - our villains didn't quite finish the job.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
