2. Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution

Another recent and ground-breaking addition to this list. Crip Camp, as the title implies, tells the story of the disabled, teenage campers and their hippie councillors at Camp Jened.

The New York based summer camp planted the seeds to inspire their attendees, also known as 'Jenedians', into a life of activism for disability rights and the independent living movement.

Co-director, James LeBrecht and civil rights advocate, Judith Heumann are amongst those who recount their liberating, utopian experience as campers and their resulting demonstrations against institutions such as Willowbrook and the then President, Richard Nixon, for his vetoing of an anti-discrimination provision in the 1972 Rehabiliation Act.

Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, the film's limited theatrical release was cancelled but has, rightfully, already received critical acclaim including this year's Audience Award at Sundance.
