10 Best Film Directors With Less Than 5 Films
2. Ari Aster
Considered as one of the most terrifying horror movies of this century, Ari Aster's feature debut Hereditary shocked and frightened audiences everywhere as the director managed to take the overused concept of a possession story and make it truly scary once again.
Anchored by a phenomenal performance from a consistently underrated Toni Collette, Aster builds up his story of pain and loss and suffering to an explosive and visceral climax that will leave you shaking.
Aster then followed up with Midsommar the very next year which, although not quite as tightly constructed as Hereditary, managed to be a worthy second film that has some gorgeously twisted imagery.
At times, it can feel slightly derivative of The Wicker Man but never to the point of theft. A horror movie set in bright wide open spaces is a challenge in itself and Aster rises to the occasion.
With only two films to his name, Aster is already considered a horror icon and all eyes will be on him to see what he does next.
