10 Best Film Directors With Less Than 5 Films
3. Greta Gerwig
The actress turned director has grown in confidence and ambition in a very short stretch of only three feature films.
After her directorial debut Nights and Weekends received generally mixed reviews, Greta Gerwig made a critical splash with her second film Lady Bird which scored her writing and directing nominations at the Oscars.
The semi-autobiographical coming of age story starring Saoirse Ronan as she battles with her caring but overbearing mother, played by Laurie Metcalf, in Sacramento. The film is funny and full of wit with great performances and a strong emotional through line. It is beautifully sentimental, yet razor sharp at the same time.
While Lady Bird is a small and intimate indie film, Gerwig's most recent film ups the scale in everyway. Her interpretation of Little Women is perhaps the best version of the overdone story ever put on screen and is Gerwig's greatest work to date.
Impeccably crafted with nothing but passion being put into it, Gerwig is taking incredibly impressive strides of advancement with each film she puts out.
