9. The Spierig Brothers

Soska Sisters
Lionsgate

The Spierig Brothers began their career in Australia with the over-the-top violent but wildly funny zombie film Undead. A jump in budget led to a massive upturn in production quality for their next film, Daybreakers, a clever take on the vampire mythos starring Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe.

They reteamed with Hawke for their next film, a twisty time travel adventure called Predestination. They were attached to the Dark Crystal prequel briefly, but left to work on the years-later sequel, Jigsaw.

Against all odds, they made a movie that should have been a cash-in feel like a fresh new take on the material, opening up the world and giving a quality and scope that none of the previous entries had achieved. Their ingenuity and visual sense are superb, and they are definitely a team to watch for the future.

Chris Vander Kaay knows the hidden secrets of the world, but he frequently forgets them. He has them written on a piece of paper along with his passwords, but he seems to have misplaced that as well.
