10 Best Hard Rock Songs Used In Movies
4. We Are The Champions - Bohemian Rhapsody
You don't really see too many rock biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody out in the wild anymore. Not since Jamie Foxx's portrayal of Ray had people taken so much to someone's portrayal of a music icon, with Rami Malek playing the perfect sarcastic wit that Freddie Mercury was always known for. Though many may have expected some killer Queen music across the soundtrack, the best musical moment had to come from the Live Aid sequence.
Being one of the greatest gigs in rock history, the scene is filmed incredibly accurately, down to the retro grade of what was being used at the time. When you put it in the context of the movie though, it feels that much more satisfying to watch. While the film does take some liberties in making Mercury's AIDS diagnosis in conjunction with the gig, this rewriting of history works much better from a storytelling perspective, almost like Mercury is going onstage with everything to prove.
As songs like Bohemian Rhapsody play out of the speakers along with Mercury's signature playing with the audience, the real gut punch comes with We Are the Champions, with the mammoth crowd of people at Wembley Stadium screaming along with every word. By the time they reach the final chorus, the one look from Malek along with Gwilym Lee's Brian May is perfect, almost as if they're saying "I can't believe we actually did it." Much like the rock shows that it pulled from, this is one of the best closing shots you could have possibly made to serve Mercury's memory.
