Halloween at Aunt Ethel's is rather unique in that it's one of those rare horror movies that show you the villain prepping for their latest spell of bloodshed.

For Aunt Ethel, the local community has heard stories about her boiling heads and torturing kids at Halloween. Our 'in' for this is Melissa, a young woman relatively new to the town, and we see Melissa regaled of tales about Aunt Ethel by her friends. In the case of the audience, we're immediately shown that Aunt Ethel really is up to no good, killing some lovebirds in the opening few minutes, then cooking batches of her 'special' candy and pickled chocolates, and laying out all manner of weapons as Halloween night looms large.

Granted, some of the dialogue is a little ropey in places - "bitch" is very much the word of the day - but visually Halloween at Aunt Ethel's is a sleek, stylish film that's smartly edited. Plus, Ethel herself is quite the character, particularly when she's killing time waiting for Halloween to roll around.
