10 Best High School Horror Movies

9. Halloween: H20

Michael Myers. He goes away some times but you can never truly get rid of him.

For Laurie Strode, this is a miserable fact of life across several timelines, whether she's his sister or not. With a renewed interest in slasher cinema, a Halloween reboot in which Laurie Strode didn't leave a daughter behind in a car crash (who then went on to have an incest baby with Michael for some unfathomable reason) was green-lit.

Now living under the identity of Keri Tate, Strode is a boozy, California private school headmistress. Her son (Josh Hartnett, someone who was in seemingly every late 90s teen movie) is a student who foolishly stays back at school with his friends instead of going on a weekend trip.

The film captures a key aspect of what made the original so intense: the set pieces. Far more inventive than the increasingly halfhearted Jamie Lloyd films, Michael is a no holds barred monster here. Stalking hapless victims amongst the endless corridors and shadows of the night, his creep factor is the highest it's been in years. Best of all is the insane dumbwaiter sequence in the school kitchen.

Michael's not playing around in this one.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
