10 Best Horror Films To Watch On Netflix This Halloween

7. The Woman In Black

Evil Dead 2013 Movie
Momentum Pictures/ CBS Films

The Film:

Proving that horror movies don’t have to be loud, jump-scary and brimming with gore to be effective (read: scary), The Woman In Black is an old-fashioned tale that will slowly get the hairs bristling.

Based on Susan Hill’s Gothic novella, director James Watkins has effortlessly interpreted Hill’s gloomy, sea swept tale of lawyer Arthur Kipps (played by a post Potter Daniel Radcliffe) enduring a stay in an isolated mansion, building his scares up slowly with bumps and creaks in the night, before unveiling the tale’s eponymous and downright spiteful spectre.

Everything from the employment of POV shots to heighten the creepiness and Jane Goldman’s script retaining the story’s dour finale make for the perfect movie to watch on a gloomy evening. Best watched with a lit oil lamp by your side.

Big Scare:

Arthur peers through a keyhole and is greeted by a grumpy ghost face. You'll see it coming, but that won't stop you from yelping in terror.
