7. Chris Washington - Get Out
Jordan Peele's darkly funny and genuinely shocking horror hit Get Out stars Daniel Kaluuya as Chris Washington, an African American photographer who visits his white girlfriend's (Allison Williams) parents, Mr. and Mrs. Armitage, in Upstate New York.
Chris is perplexed by a series of unexplained happenings and, in an unexpected twist, we eventually discover the ghastly truth: Mr. and Mrs. Armitage want to transplant Chris' brain into the body of one of their wealthy white neighbours.
Despite the Armitage's ardent attempts to incapacitate and ultimately murder him, Chris is able to escape the evil-doings of this twisted family and attempts to flee the family home. Although, as the film draws to a close, it appears unlikely that Chris will actually survive his time with the Armitage family, he is eventually helped and saved by his friend, Rod (Lil Rel Howery).
Chris' survival is as refreshing as it is unexpected, and the character enjoys the closest thing possible to a happy ending in horror. Intelligent, resilient, and brave, Chris out-maneuvers the Armitage's multiple times, and he remains a truly deserving final guy.
