10 Best Horror Movie Franchises
2. Halloween
Whilst it definitely wasn't the very first horror of its kind to be released, Halloween was probably the most impactful film in the genre since the days of Hitchcock and co. Whilst titles like Black Christmas and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre had certainly brought slasher tropes to the masses, John Carpenter and Deborah Hill's was the first mainstream film to bring the terror to people's homes.
There was no comforting feeling of knowing the danger was confined to a slaughterhouse in the middle of nowhere anymore, and the silent stalking by Michael Myers definitely had more than a few people glancing outside their windows after seeing the original film. As well as the unsettling stalking, Michael Myers' zombie-like relentless thirst to kill one of the most iconic final girls ever proved to be one heck of a winning formula.
Throw in another brilliant character in Donald Pleasence's Dr. Samuel Loomis and it's pretty undeniable that Halloween has the strongest core of characters of any horror franchise in the world. Layer in a consistent amount of tension, suspense and some especially gory kills and Halloween sets a pretty hard bar to reach in the hunt for the world's best ever horror franchise.
