6. Talk To Me

Talk to Me
Umbrella Entertainment

The first three minutes of Talk to Me is a masterclass in horror filmmaking, due to its relentless pacing and unsettling atmosphere.

Presented as an unbroken tracking shot, it follows Cole through a house party in search of his brother, Duckett. The decision to use a continuous take not only showcases the filmmakers' efficiency but also elevates the tension, as we don't miss one second of the bone-chilling situation.

In a bedroom, Cole finds his brother mumbling to himself incoherently, with fresh wounds visible on his back. Despite his unstable demeanour, the partygoers don't offer to help Duckett and instead record him, much to Cole's fury. As Cole angrily pushes through the crowd, Duckett inexplicably stabs him in the stomach with a knife, killing him. While everyone runs in terror, Duckett impales himself through the face before the screen cuts to black.

This duo isn't directly involved in the central plot, but their sudden and vicious demise highlights how the supernatural forces in this story are unpredictable and destructive. So, when our lead characters play around with an embalmed hand with paranormal abilities shortly after, it's obvious things are going to from bad to worse very quickly.
