10 Best Horror Movie Scenes When Evil Characters Turned Good

4. CJ - Dawn Of The Dead (2004)

Dawn of the Dead CJ
Universal Pictures

CJ is one of the survivors in Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake and is often seen by horror fans as the precursor to Daryl Dixon. Like the famous Walking Dead character, he starts off as a jerk who is motivated by selfish reasons until he gradually learns to become selfless.

When we meet him, he shuns our protagonists away from the mall and when they do get in, locks them up for no reason. CJ gets his just desserts however when the group mutinies and traps him where he placed them which would be a fitting end to his character.

But as he realized during confinement, the primary ingredient in any relationship is trust which is why he decides to put his on the group once they free him. The more he worked with the survivors, the more audiences saw that this CJ was no longer a man motivated by personal gain. He even helps an injured ally even though he could have left him behind.

This all culminates in the film's climax when CJ sacrifices himself by blowing himself and zombies to smithereens to save his fire-forged friends.

Not bad for someone who started out as one of the biggest jerks in zombie movie history.
