5. Riddick - Pitch Black
Vin Diesel's Richard B. Riddick is one of the central characters in the film, Pitch Black. A notorious criminal wanted for numerous crimes, he is seen as a villain by those around him. So when the survivors of the Hunter-Grazner crash land on a planet and begin dying one by one, Riddick becomes the obvious prime suspect.
He is quickly proven innocent, however, when it is revealed that indigenous nocturnal creatures have been responsible for the attacks. In order to survive, the humans free Riddick to get them through the night, hence the film's tagline, 'Fight evil with evil.'
When we first meet Riddick, he starts off as a cold and ruthless prisoner who is only in it to serve his personal interests. He's a dangerous sociopath who is far from being a hero. But as the events of the film unfold, we see him show some glimmers of light, especially to a young girl named Jack who idolizes him.
Riddick's fondness for her comes through when he kills his former captor Johns, after he planned on using Jack as bait for the creatures. And when survivor Frye sacrifices herself for him. the notorious convict is shaken to the core and in the film's closing line, tells the survivors that Riddick died somewhere on that planet.
