10 Best Horror Movies To Watch Alone

7. The Evil Dead

Innkeepers Movie
New Line Cinema

Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead is one of the greatest horror films of all time. It's perfect on every level, but for many reasons, it's one hell of a difficult watch with friends.

We all know the story. A bunch of friends go to a cabin in the woods and before you can say "groovy," all hell breaks loose. Simple, but effective.

The movie is unrelentingly terrifying. Raimi pulls no punches in his quest to make the viewer cringe and cower at the sheer brutality on the screen. You'd think that'd make it a great watch with some pals, as you can all sit together and bond over your collective trauma. However, that's where you'd be wrong.

Even by today's standards The Evil Dead is extreme, and there is no part more extreme than the tree scene. You know the one. Even alone that moment is hard to watch, but with others? That's just an experience you don't want to have.

Another thing that makes it a great solo watch is that since some of the effects are a little dated it eliminates the chance of one of your watch buddies making wise-cracks and ruining the whole experience, which is never fun.
