10 Best Horror Movies Told In Real Time
5. Green Room
Coming from Blue Ruin director Jeremy Saulnier, 2015’s unbearably tense, disturbing siege horror Green Room barely diverges from real time outside of its brief opening and closing sequences.
Otherwise, this taut and brutally violent thriller maintains a real time presentation as its plot follows the ordeal of a punk band besieged by violent neo nazis and attempting to survive the night after accidentally walking in on a murder scene in the eponymous dressing room of a dive bar.
Boasting an ensemble cast including a terrifying Patrick Stewart as a soft-spoken skinhead psychopath, the late great Anton Yelchin as the band's nervy frontman, and Imogen Poots as his surprisingly resilient bandmate, this twisty flick packs more shocking moments of extreme violence into its slim real time plot than many horror directors manage in their entire careers. With a box cutter dissection, an arm hacked to shreds, and trained dogs chowing down on one unfortunate character, the film is merciless and unbearably tense.
Gripping, intense, and relentlessly downbeat, this one is an unfortunately believable slice of gruesome horror for those who like their thrills to have real bite.
